Nature rings out at remote Echo Cliff Park
Uplift and erosion have created a spectacular sandstone bluff that’s accessible to the public.
Sandstone and running water (and a few more geological elements) created the 75-foot-tall edifice known as Echo Cliff. It’s not a trail or trailhead, but it is a stunning and unexpected phenomenon about 30 minutes southwest of Topeka, Kan.
This private park is open to the public and includes unique folk art signs and seating areas. Guests are free to walk across the wood-plank 1920s bridge at the park’s border. Depending on the water level of Mission Creek, you can also splash around in the stream and get a closer look at this massive sandstone formation. Fishing is allowed.
There’s no camping at Echo Cliff, but apparently Native Americans camped near or at its base for centuries.
