Trail Burcham Park Trail

Overview
The Kansas (Kaw) River retains much of its prairie wildness as it heads toward Kansas City. As it flows through Lawrence, it’s surrounded by forest and populated by the sandbars and wildlife that live along its route. The Burcham Park Trail offers a one-mile (each way) walk from the Kansas Rowing Boathouse south to the Rachel Genosky Memorial and Constant Park. For most of its route, this paved trail passes tall cottonwood forest and never strays from the riverside. It’s an excellent vantage point to view birds including warblers, flycatchers, pileated woodpeckers and more. Near the trailhead, the park features a playground and picnic shelter at the river’s edge. Prominently displayed is a sculpture called “Keepers of the Universe.”
