Overview Ironwoods Park is a quick escape to nature in suburban Johnson County. Its 115 acres feature gently rolling grassy areas, wooded hills, a quiet stream and a pond. In addition, this Leawood park is home to a playground, The Prairie Oak Nature Center and a high-ropes challenge course. The historic Oxford School House is also on the property. The park contains a total of two miles of looping trails. Your mileage will vary depending on which loops you take. If you’re looking for a longer walk, you can retrace your steps.

Ironwoods Park, 14701 Mission Road, Leawood, KS 66224Conditions This is a paved trail. The north side is relatively flat, while the south side includes a short but steep hill. It’s easy to avoid the incline by taking a different loop. Much of this trail is exposed to direct sunlight, so it can be hot or exposed to cold wind depending on the season.
Kid friendly? This trail is paved and suitable for strollers, although young children may have difficulty trudging up the hill. Water safety should be exercised near the pond. There is a playground area and restrooms and the nature center is oriented toward children.

How busy? This is a moderately trafficked park. Traffic can increase when activities are held on site (The Lodge at Ironwoods hosts events; ropes course challenges are also scheduled).
