Revitalized wetlands surround Grain Valley’s Blue Branch Creek Trail
A public-private partnership has resulted in a paved trail that runs through an environment of native plants and restored lowlands in Eastern Jackson County.
Trail Blue Branch Creek Trail
Overview
To the casual observer, Blue Branch Creek Trail appears to be a pleasant, paved path through a Grain Valley neighborhood. And it is. But those willing to look closer will discover a wetland restored to its natural state. Swallowtail, an ecosystem restoration company, renewed the previous park, pasture and cropland into its original wild environment. Improvements were also made to Blue Branch Creek to reduce erosion and enhance water quality. Waterfowl, birds of prey and deer are some of the wildlife that can be observed here. Although this narrow strip of nature is sandwiched between subdivisions, a high school, and retailers, it provides a genuine escape for those who take time to breathe it all in.A company associated with Swallowtail, Remembrance Forest, honors the memory of loved ones with native trees planted in a permanently protected forest.
Length When all spurs are included, the trail is 1.2-miles long. An out-and-back walk will be about two miles, depending on which detours you take.
