Get a bird’s eye view of Lawrence at Wells Overlook

Wells Overlook Park, Lawrence, Kansas.

A tower and pavilion give a blufftop view of the Kaw Valley and university town.

Lawrence sits on and is surrounded by hilly terrain. There are several places to get an aerial view. The best vantage point is arguably Wells Overlook Park, south of the city. It includes a multi-story tower and and the Passerine Pavilion. It’s an excellent place to stop, catch your breath, have a picnic or soak up the sun. The highest vantage point provides views in three directions; the pavilion provides interpretive displays and identifies points on the horizon. One of the facts in the display identifies a prominent hill as Blue Mound, which was apparently a ski resort in the 1970s. Groovy.
